Disaster Assistance Resources

The Community Foundation of Southwest Louisiana is committed to raising funds to support the recovery of our communities after the recent hurricanes. To date, the fund has pledges and contributions nearing $3 million. These funds are being actively deployed to support nonprofits responding to immediate needs including feeding, sheltering, and home repairs. As the recovery progresses, funds will be utilized to support long-term recovery efforts.

The Foundation utilizes an expedited evaluation and approval process in times of disaster. The following process will be followed:

  • Daily (or less frequently as the recovery progresses) calls with organizations responding on the ground to understand real-time needs
  • In-person assessments completed by Foundation staff with a tool developed and perfected during the response to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. This assessment is not intended to be burdensome on non-profits
  • Grant recommendations made by assessment teams that are screened and approved daily
  • Check delivery or pick-up coordination in the event wire transfers are not possible and the postal service is deemed too lengthy

Our disaster philanthropy is designed to get funds on the ground quickly, within hours of a disaster, without requiring lengthy grant applications. If you have a funding need, you may call us at 337-491-6688 so that a member of our staff can speak with you.
